This is the safest record on the books: a pure count of confirmed planets, with no measurement to gate. A planet enters the count only once it is confirmed in the NASA Exoplanet Archive, so the number can lag reality but can never overstate it. The count matches the one shown on each system's own page, and it includes the handful of confirmed worlds whose discoveries are still disputed (their own pages badge them as such). Our solar system is excluded because its worlds are planets, not exoplanets.
For comparison, our own Sun keeps eight planets. What could unseat this record: not a new measurement but a new confirmation; the transit and radial-velocity surveys keep adding members to systems we already know, so crowded systems tend to get more crowded.
