NGC 3177

NGC 3177 is a barred spiral galaxy in the constellation Leo about 60 million ly from Earth. It spans roughly 25,000 ly, about 25% of our Milky Way's width. It is receding from us at about 1,220 km/s.

Because its light is 60 million ly from home, you are seeing NGC 3177 as it looked roughly 60 million years ago. The photons left before that much of history had passed, and are only now reaching us. This distance is estimated from the galaxy's redshift, so the lookback time is approximate.
